So I mentioned in my last weekly update that I joined a CSA, which would be dictating the meal plan for the next few months. Well, today the kiddies and I picked up the first box!
Side note to all parents: I highly recommend CSAs just for the excitement generated by the Mystery Box. The kids were falling all over themselves unpacking the leafy goodies within. My daughter was gnawing on the green onions (no lie), and my son is absolutely beside himself with ideas for the radishes.
Anyway, offspring aside, I’m really pleased with what we got. Definitely worth the money, especially since it’s all local, sustainable, organic, fresh, buzzword-y, and so forth.
Here’s what we got this week:
- spring onions (a little over two pounds
- parsley (a huge bunch)
- bok choy (about two pounds)
- turnips (around three pounds)
- turnip greens (half a pound or so)
- broccoli (almost a pound)
- collard greens (about a pound)
- radishes with greens (about half a pound)
I’m not 100% sure yet, but I’m planning on doing some kind of stir fry with the bok choy, southern-style smoky collards with cornbread, and a whole bunch of roasted turnips. I’ll probably just chuck the radishes into salad or eat them on buttered bread, and I know I’ll just put the parsley and onions in and/or on everything.
